You can enroll for Open UAS studies for a maximum of 50 credits per semester. Enrolments that exceed 50 credits will be removed in the order of enrolments.
Xamk’s degree students who are present or absent cannot enroll for Xamk Pulse’s courses. Enrolments by Xamk’s degree students will be removed without separate notification.
Learning outcomes:
- You will be introduced of successful youth work practices, which are used for social empowerment of young people in Europe.
- You will be orientated from theoretical and scientific perspective of preventing social exclusion, enhancing empowerment and employability of youth.
- You are acquainted of common contents of the course, which are inclusion, participation, empowerment, active citizenship, and employability.
- You understand the significance of these subjects in terms of well-being of youth.
Contents:
The course introduces successful youth work practices, which are used for social empowerment of young people in Europe. The course is divided on five different sections:
- Common content.
- Equality.
- Experiential learning.
- Employment.
- Online community/mentoring.
All sections have topics about the topic in general, an intro, target group, best practice/ examples, methods, recommendations and further readings/ information. All sections and their topics are gathered to their own interactive books that contain text, articles, pictures, and videos. All sections also have a quiz about the topic.
Methods:
Course is completed independently online on Open Learn digital learning environment.
All work is independent and the students will proceed at their own pace. First section includes the common contents of the course. The students must read all the materials and execute the quizzes from “common content” before they are able to move forward at the course. After they have completed the “common content” section, they are able to accomplish the rest of the course in the order they want to. The end date of the course is presented in the course details. By this date, the student must submit all assignments, take the required exams and meet all other conditions set for an approved course completion.
A five-credit course corresponds to approximately 135 hours of student workload. The number of hours is theoretical and varies depending on the student’s effort.
Study material:
The study material is accessible on the learning environment. All sections have their own interactive books that contain text about the topics, accessible external links to articles and videos.
Assessment:
The quizzes are evaluated. There are unlimited attempts for the quizzes and correct answers gives points where false answers will decrease total points. The time limit for the quizzes is 30 minutes.

Cancellation

Transcript of records
The teacher has one month to give a grade after the student has completed all learning tasks. We will send you an electronically signed transcript of records within about a week after you have received the grade in the Peppi system. The transcript serves as a document if, for example, you are applying for credit for your studies at another university. Studies can also be credited at Xamk if you come to us as a degree student. This course is based on the curricula of Xamk’s degree programmes and the Finnish credits are fully compatible with the ECTS.

This course was composed as a result from the project Empowering Youth – Successful youth work practises in Europe (EMPYRE).
