Enrollment for Xamk Pulse studies is binding. After the studies start, you will be sent an invoice by email. The fee will be invoiced and will not be refunded, even if you interrupt/cancel your studies.

You can enroll for Open UAS studies for a maximum of 50 credits per semester. Enrolments that exceed 50 credits will be removed in the order of enrolments.

Xamk’s degree students who are present or absent cannot enroll for Xamk Pulse’s courses. Enrolments by Xamk’s degree students will be removed without separate notification. Paid course fees will not be refunded.  

Xamk’s path students enroll on Peppi or Tuudo.

Learning outcomes:

  • You are familiar with the key content of legislation and regulations concerning alcohol dispensing.
  • You are able to pass a test on the regulations and instuctions concerning the serving, selling and consumption monitoring of alcohol in a restaurant as stated by Alcohol Act (1102/2017, 57§ and 58§) and Decree of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health on Enforcement of the Alcohol (Decree 158/2018, 6§ and 7§).
  • With the alcohol serving license, you demonstrate your knowledge of alcohol laws. You need the alcohol serving license if you work as a responsible manager in a licensed establishment. Many restaurants require their employees involved in serving alcohol to have the license.

  • What requirements must personnel and licence holder meet?
  • What regulations are applied to the advertising of alcohol?
  • How and where do you apply for a dispensing certificate?
  • What are the different forms of dispensing certificates?
  • What is required of a restaurant that wishes to extend opening hours?
  • What is required if a restaurant wishes to offer take-away sale of alcohol?
  • What authorities monitor compliance with the legislation related to alcohol?
  • How is compliance with the legislation related to alcohol monitored?
  • How and in which quantities do Finns consume alcohol?
  • What are the negative impacts of alcohol consumption and how are they prevented?
  • What drinking trends are currently prevailing?

Methods:
Study materials are available on the Xamk Learn learning platform. Students will receive login instructions for the learning platform via email, where the course information lecture, link to the study materials, additional materials are stored. Preliminary assignments 1 cr must be completed before test.

The alcohol serving license test is conducted as a supervised computer-based test on Learn platform at Mikkeli campus on Wednesday, April 29th from 15:00 to 16:30. If the number of participants is high, additional test sessions will be organized. The schedule will be announced at the beginning of the course. A failed test can be retaken twice during the same test session. Bring your own laptop to the test session. Identification will be checked before the test begins, so you must bring an official and valid ID, such as a passport or ID card.

The alcohol serving license test consists of 60 questions, of which 80 % must be answered correctly to pass. If the test is not passed on the first attempt, we will arrange two (2) retests, which will be held immediately after the first test.

The alcohol serving license will be delivered electronically signed, to the personal email address provided by the student at the time of registration. Alcohol passport is valid only in Finland

A two-credit course corresponds to approximately 54 hours of student workload. The number of hours is theoretical and varies depending on the student’s effort.

Assessment methods and criteria:
The test is graded as passed/failed. To pass, you must achieve 80 % correct answers. The test can be retaken twice. Preliminary assignments must be completed before the test.

Cancellation 
If you do not start your studies, please inform us so that we can remove you from the course. This way, there will be no record of the course you did not complete. Cancellations should be sent to avoinamk@xamk.fi. The fee will be invoiced even if you interrupt/cancel your studies.

Transcript of records
The teacher has one month to give a grade after the student has completed all learning tasks. We will send you an electronically signed transcript of records within about a week after you have received the grade in the Peppi system. The transcript serves as a document if, for example, you are applying for credit for your studies at another university. Studies can also be credited at Xamk if you come to us as a degree student.
